Pictures like this recent photograph of the mane of the Hosehead nebula just make the back of my neck tingle with how absolutely incredible stuff is.

The mane is a cloud of Hydrogen that's fluorescing red.

Forgot to mention, its written about in this article in the New Scientist.

And was taken using the Angle-Australian Telescope in New South Wales, Australia.

The light captured in this picture is 1500 years old!!

Thats a crazy enough thought as it is!! That I can be looking up at the night sky, and the photons I'm looking at have been travelling in an unimpeded line, on a clear run, for centuries and centuries! Only to bounce off of my silly chops!

If I hadn't been bloody stood here, in the way with my dirty stinkhole of a planet, those photons could have gone on for ages!

You know you are talking to yourself.
What freaks me is looking up at the big black and *almost* grasping how small we are (yoinks fear!) and yet; the uman imagination is vast. I mean have you ever found the limit of what is in your head?

No, but sometimes I feel like I'm getting near enough to the edge that I might fall out if I'm not careful! Kindof mental vertigo. Oh! Vertsuperego. :D

Isn't it?! :)

I'm sure one of the reasons I became a nerd was because of how beautiful the special effects were in sci-fi. Lucky there weren't pictures like this about, or I may have turned out as a hippy!! D:

;)

Have a look at some of these:

Mind blowing stuff. Sci-fi got me interested in this stuff too.

(just dropping in from Tamara's friends list) :)

Hello! :D

Yeah, the Hubble pictures are always beautiful, but they're kindof cheating as they're taken from space. This horse-head nebula one was taken from a ground telescope! ;P

Have you registered with Galaxy Zoo and taken part in the galaxy classification project? Thats just mind-blowing, knowing you're sat there classifying galaxies that have never been seen by the human eye before!

A friend was telling me about the Galaxy zoo thing the other day but i forgot to have a look. I'll have to give it a go. I like the idea of sitting here on our little rock classifying galaxies containing billions of worlds, perhaps they're looking back at us doing the same.
